MZ Flashbacks Part 2: How to manage your Hockey team

by damo11

Remember back in the day when there were screens like that? I’m talking 2003 here when a few of us first started playing MZ. Yes, we feel like fossils, but that’s what the theme is here for MZ Flashbacks. What we do is regurgitate content that you may have forgotten, sometimes relevant, sometimes effective in today’s game. Other times it’s just interesting to see where the game has gone.

In saying that, this article below is from Zone 222 with a guide on How to manage your Hockey team (part one).

That’s enough from me, so enjoy the nostalgia that comes with the read!

WHAT ABOUT WHEN THE WELCOME CUPS END? After finishing your participation at Welcome Cups you will promote a real refurbishment in your team. All the players you’ve bought must be sold, all of them! About the 19 players who came first in your team, you should keep only those that came with 4 in keeping or more. These ones you should put immediately to train keeping, and leave them there until maximize this attribute. I guarantee you that of the 19 players you got, no one other than keepers will worth leaving in your squad. Playing with youths will be more than enough to get promotion to 6th division and about Division Cup don’t fool yourself; even with the old fellows in your tactic it won’t be possible to win it for now. About Season Cup, you will indeed be able to win it with the old players got in the market, however it does not worth investing in them for only one tournament, keep calm and in the future you’ll have much better chances to win your Season Cup and others. During this period, after Welcome Cups, and up to 5th division, you will save money, coming mainly from the Official League, friendlies and Sponsorship. This money should be used to build your stadium bit by bit. After finishing your stadium, you will invest the money on young players, the ideal time to do this is at the beginning of each season, when the former youths are sold, and you still have 8 foreigner spots to be filled. Will be easy to sign good, young players with low prices. Give preference for ex-youth, 9 in power, you will find them for around 300K. You can also sign former youth with 8 in Power and good amount of pucks in secondary attributes. I suggest you to search for players up to 19 years, with minimum 8 in power and with at least 30 total discs disregarding keeping. Plan these signings this way will also be important for building your future U23 team, as I said you will hire these players after 3 or 4 seasons, having already completed the stadium and having saved money for these signings. As you have 8 foreigner spots, you will get to hire many former youth who have the same age, in case you hire around 10 former youths this season, around your 3rd or 4th of MZ, you will have formed half U23 team for the future and you will still have former youth coming from your own training ground to complete your future team under 23, and in the coming seasons you should keep this mentality and keep hiring young players. Be patient and in more 4, 5 seasons, meaning in your 8th season, you’ll have a strong U23, able to reach semi-finals. THE YOUTHS You should ask the youths once you create your team, but the quantity to ask will depend on the round you are in the season when you create it. If you create your team at the beginning of the season, until the 7th or 8th round ask for 18 youths. But why 18, if we can ask 26 in total? 18 because for me the ideal is to have a 9-9-8 scheme, but ask for only 9 in the first season is not enough because you won’t be able to set up an U18 team and we must have more than the senior team to keep motivated in the game and not to give up quickly. And your willingness, your desire to succeed after the Welcome Cups will mainly be the prospect of getting something in the Under-18 tournaments. So let’s ask the first season 18 youth players to form our U18 team and next season we ask the other 8 players missing in the scheme. With full amount, you will then start playing with highest quality possible, but for that to happen, all of your Uxx should be well trained and so I recommend you to read my other topic “HOW TO TRAIN OUR YOUTH”. BUT THE PLANNING WASN’T TO HAVE A 9-9-8 SCHEME? Yes! But we don’t ask only 9 youths in the first season so we can have conditions to set up an U18 team in the beginning. In the fourth season, the first 18 will graduate, then you will lower the number to 17, having now the scheme 9-8-0. In the fifth season, you have only 8 youth so raise the total number to 18, having now 9-9-0 and in the upcoming term you finally reach the ideal scheme, with full amount of players split in 9-9-8. WHAT IF I CREATE MY TEAM AFTER THE 8TH ROUND? If you create your team after the 8th round does not worth asking for 18 youths, do you know why? Because they will have lost many days of training and the earlier in the season you ask for young players obviously the more days they will play within the season. Whether asking players in the beginning or in the end of the season, they will arrive with the same age. In this situation, even though you are almost at the end of the season, ask for 8 youths, yes, 8 because this will at least make your life a bit easier to get to the 9-9-8 scheme. In this situation you’ll raise the amount of young guys to 17 in the second season and to 26 in the third term. SOME ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Arrange friendlies every week, the income is good and very important. The ideal is to get a Club member package in the beginning in order to play every cup possible. You won’t reach any play-off stage but the income will be very important anyway. Join in at least 2 Friendly leagues and 2 Friendly or Prized Cups simultaneously, to guarantee maximum income in the week. Every week, you can earn Money from 2 friendly matches played at home, meaning that if you play 3 matches at home soil, you will still get Money from only the first two matches. Remembering that the income from friendlies, Friendly leagues, Friendly and Prized Cups goes entirely to the hosts of the match. You’ll get money from the first five matches played in Friendly leagues, Friendly Cup and Prized Cup in the week. There is no limit of income in Official Cups, but the revenue is shared between hosts and visitors. For League matches, the whole income goes to the team playing at home.
