Division 1 Season 70 Preview

There’s not much to report on here as we’ve just seen a number of teams come and go throughout the offseason.
Div 1.1
Dropping down to div 1.1, Close family will have their work cut out for them as they try to get back up to the A-League. The Obscurials were the only team to gain promotion through playoffs, and thus the extra team comes into the league. Rounding out the new teams are a run of div 2 clubs including
Div 1.2
The biggest chopping and changing comes from the middle tier having half the clubs in the league switch divisions. Headed by  Brisbane Roar and Welford from the A-League, this will be one mighty tough competition to play in this season. Excelsior United, Scoffing Down United, Manilla and  Aussie Polo & Gents Club are the other clubs to come up from div 2.
Div 1.3
Just the standard four club changes in this comp as Ayreon regrettably drops down to div 1 again. Melbourne City, Ryde City FC, and Pina Colada FC are all promoted and will face a challenge from relegation survivors Redbacks FC, and HASSELHOFF BABES.

Division 1 Season 69 — End of season review

A follow up to the mid-season review, the race for promotion has gotten even more exciting across the three Division 1 competitions.
DIV 1.1
It all came down the final round as the BES MUDI BANDITS decided to once again choke up and make their manager seat on the final game of the season. The Obscurials were hot on their heals with just the two points behind in the end, as the Bandits threw away a 2-0 game against Green Sheep in Round 21 to ensure there were no easy wins left. The only saving grace for the premiers was a 2-2 draw in the same round to the runner up as they now face Playoffs alongside Darwin Saville FC. Gunyah and Green Sheep can consider themselves unlucky not to be involved in the playoffs but should feature around the mark next season.
Bandits key striker Howie Hogan nailed the Golden Boot with 78 goals for the season, however, Amerigo Rossini from The Obscurials more than deserved the award in runner up thanks to 64 goals from just 11 matches.
DIV 1.2
Harry kept his Cool throughout the final stages of the season, even extending that 8-point buffer out to 10 points by the final round, but had a mishap in round 18 against Duffield United, losing 2-1. Catanzaro FC and Mount Pleasant held on with wins in the final round to take them to the playoffs, as Stone Eagles were forced to draw with the unlikely Selbourne (who managed only the one point in five rounds), giving them no chance of promotion after the result.
The Cool’s Wilson Santana snapped up Golden Boot easily with 63 goals from just 14 games – 17 goals ahead of the next best.
DIV 1.3
Collingwood kept their winning streak going into the final six matches to take the crown. Only Safety Squad proved a threat in the end as Warburn F.C fell away with losses in the last two rounds to cost them a spot in the playoffs on goal difference. The good news story is that Elite FC got the chocolates over them in Round 21 with a 1-2 victory that took them to third place by the last round. At the other end, Redbacks FC climbed out of automatic relegation and into playoffs with three wins from their final five games.
Collingwood’s Gualterio Avellaneda notched the Golden Boot with 70 majors, just 7 ahead of Rodney Lord from Safety Squad.
Six Div1 clubs now look to playoffs for a chance to get to the A-League, while another six try to cement their places inside Div1 for Season 70. You can follow all of those matches in the Div 1 Playoffs tab this offseason.

Division 1 Season 69 — Rounds 14-17 Review

A follow up to the mid-season review, the race for promotion has gotten even more exciting across the three Division 1 competitions.
DIV 1.1
Since round 13, we’ve seen 0Fubar You drop out of the top three, and The Obscurials hit some impressive form with a perfect run from 6th to take them into 3rd place, including a positive 2-1 win over BES MUDI BANDITS in the latest round. This victory effectively halted the run for the Bandits and getting a couple of games clear, instead just a win ahead of the next two and leaving the automatic promotion to anyone.  Darwin Saville hold onto 2nd by a few goals in the difference, but the final round should tell the tale. Green Sheep may hold the key to the victors with matches against Gunyah, Darwin Saville FC and BES MUDI BANDITS over the coming rounds.
DIV 1.2
We already noted last time how far ahead of the pack Harry Cool is, so that’s kind of a no-brainer to say they’ve got the title well and truly wrapped up now. Canazaro is a mere second place and should hold on to that spot, leaving the 3rd place to be desired. Despite losing their past two matches, Mount Pleasant FC have jumped into 3rd thanks to Stone Eagles only gathering 4 points from the past fortnight. No changes have been recorded from 5trh to 12th, but Selbourne and Vikings are still within an earshot of making the playoffs.
DIV 1.3
Somehow Collingwood dropped a match bringing them back into the pack of the automatic promotion. Safety Squad smashed them 4-0 just two rounds ago despite the even contest around the ground thanks to two goals each from national striker Keefer Carragher and Rodney Lord. Rounding out the top three is Warburn F.C as they now have a 2-win break over Elite FC who dropped two matches in Rounds 14/15. Not much has changed at the bottom end of the ladder, but expect the key game to be Round 22’s Warburn F.C vs Safety Squad to complete the standings.

Division 1 Season 69 — Mid-Season Review

The quest to take part in the top flight always leaves a lot to be desired. But at the turning point of the season, we take a glimpse into how the three Division 1s are headed after an intriguing beginning first half of the year.
DIV 1.1
Putting aside all team bias here, I can only go on practical reports of my side BES MUDI BANDITS (I promise I’m not yelling) and say that the name change in the last off-season to restore the club to its former glory has gone to plan so far. In what has been a yo-yo at the top between BMB and Darwin Saville FC, has seen 0Fubar You make a significant impact on the top 3 in the standings. The Bandits have slipped up a couple of times this season against weaker opponents (a number of red cards have hurt the club), while Darwin Saville have had a tough past four rounds taking home only 5 points from what could’ve been a chance to hold onto the top spot for the back half of the season. In the middle, Gunyah are doing the most damage of late, tied up in a tussle with Green Sheep and The Obscurials. It’s certainly set up for a great run home with six teams still in the mix for a playoff spot.
DIV 1.2
It’s fair to say thatHarry Cool have this one wrapped up and should return to the A-Leauge once more in only just over a month’s time. Pureowen has his squad in scintillating form only dropping a handful of points from two draws in rounds 1 and 4 to Catanzaro FC and Stone Eagles — both likely challengers for playoffs, but probably too far behind to catch  the Cool in the remaining rounds based on form.  Mount Pleasant FC and Selbourne are also in the mix, making the two playoff spots a race with four teams around the mark. Look out for Round 22 when Stone Eagles vs Selbourne and Catanzaro FC vs Harry Cool could become crucial deciding matches.
DIV 1.3
In what was looking like an unstoppable season for Collingwood turned into a shock in the 13th Round as they slipped up 0-1 to 6th placed Rodborough in what we know to be a “simming” thanks to a 21-7 shot count and 54% possession rate. Aside from that game, Collingwood have stamped their authority on the league and leave only Safety Squad and Warburn F.C as candidates of trying to get to the top. Elite FC and Rodboroguh have struggled this season after coming close to promotion last year, and need a big second half of the season. The round 22 thriller is already set up between 2nd and 3rd among the top 8 all playing one another.
