So onwards we go toward season 58. Some teams are still here, some have left, and there is a healthy mix of old stalwarts, returned ex-retirees, and new blood to make it very interesting.  To top it off we have a brand new sim to learn about.  Anything could happen! All 3 winners of the div 1 leagues had records of played 22, won 22, so they’ve gotta be good. Let’s break down the teams.

Name: Abbotsford FC

Last season: 6th in A league

Prediction: Not a bad debut season, finishing mid table. Will be wanting to push on this season and aim for top 4. Recently signed 28 year old Italian Bernardo Azzolina for a cool 4.8mil AUD and will need him in top form to achieve this. I reckon they’ll start strong but fade away and finish mid table.

Name: Brisbane Roar

Last season: 1st in div 1.2 (unbeaten)

Prediction: Any team to go win every single league game in a season should be taken seriously, however Brisbane Roar have been around for so long without fulfilling their potential it is hard to predict their results. With 2.2mil AUD spent on a new Romanian signing they will hope to stay up, but based on history I can only see them finishing in the playoff spots at best.

Name: City Water Motel

Last season: 7th in A league

Prediction: Another season of constant transfer activity saw City Water Motel struggle for consistency, and the season break has seen more of the same with most of the team on the market. Moving into the team is national player Jack O’Neil for 5.9mil AUD, but many more recruits are still needed. I think the inconsistencies will hurt his season, and predict finishing in the playoff spots.

Name: Crystal Phallus FC

Last season: 1st in div 1.3 (unbeaten)

Prediction: damo11 has rebuilt his team around predominantly Australians and a few super signings (like spending 12.5mil on a Chinese national player) and is an interesting proposition. Definitely has the team to cause some upsets but with little depth may struggle to maintain results. I reckon playoff spots is a likely finish, but picking them to make it to mid table.

Name: F.C. Ailsa

Last season: 1st in div 1.1 (unbeaten)

Prediction: It’s always hard coming into the top league and despite adding a couple of Brazilians to the team I think they will struggle. With some older Aussie players past their prime and the young ones inexperienced they will try to pick up points everywhere they can. My prediction is bottom 3.

Name: Hellas FC

Last season: 3rd in div 1.1 (won playoff)

Prediction: Snuck into the A league from a tight playoff group which they probably didn’t expect. With no youth program they have relied on older players and internationals to get by but will find the step up to the big league very challenging. I think they will be the whipping boys and will be in the bottom 3.

Name: Hop Skip Jump

Last season: 8th in A league (survived playoff)

Prediction: Found it tough last season in the A league but having survived the playoffs will be keen to try again. No transfer activity has taken place but I think the added experience will see them finish season 58 in the lower-mid table.

Name: Myrtou FC

Last season: 3rd in A league (on goal difference)

Prediction: Would have been the team to watch after taking the A league by storm in season 57, however the team has been sold for around 36mil and they will be smashed game after game. A shame as this team promised so much!

Name: SYDClub

Last season: 5th in A league

Prediction: Another disappointing last season for a team that is always there or there abouts. With a few comings and goings and some younger players developing really well this could be the season for SYDClub to mount a serious title challenge. Definitely picking top 3 for these guys.

Name: Shrewsbury Biscuits FC

Last season: 1st in A league

Prediction: Won the league last season with 4 games to play, then lost the last 4 games showing a definite vulnerable side. A number of players departed over the break with young replacements brought in. Still a quality side with 5 National players and should finish in the top 3.

Name: The Smoking Tree

Last season: 2nd in A league

Prediction: Did really well last season and is building a very impressive side (check it out, his players are all viewable). Should finish in the top 3 again this season as long as he keeps on top of the new sim tactics. With the age of his players he could be near the top for a while!

Name: <Draxonia> Crimson Eagles

Last season: 4th in A league (on goal difference)

Prediction: Another season, another National Cup title, another disappointing league finish. Manager senile_old_men must be wondering what the magic cure is. Possibly his new 6mil signing Vatan Suat is the answer? Probably gonna win this year (finally) but because I’m the defending champion and he always beats me tactically I’m going to selfishly predict mid-table.
